Creating a leadership culture

Submitted by on Tuesday, 20 March 2012One Comment

One of the challenges created by hi-octane growth in Asia is how companies can build a vibrant leadership culture in order to make their efforts sustainable. And, as this article has shown, that is not so easy. This is why building a leadership culture is now the greatest source of competitive advantage.

What do we mean by a leadership culture? In short, a combination of Experiences, Values, Beliefs, and Behaviours that entwine and are lived every day (as per our own engagement model here) to create the ‘Flywheel Effect’ of ever-reinforcing greatness. The graphic below illustrates this leadership culture model.

How to define a compelling and real leadership culture model

Great companies are aware that what differentiates them – over time – is not their products or services, not their organisational design or R&D, and is not even their customers. It is instead their culture, which makes the right choices and actions possible over a longer period of time, and leads to sustainability in the long term. Defining and articulating this leadership culture is thus critical for corporate success.

How to do that? Simply put, you need a being and action model that helps you define the elements above and enables – here’s the most critical part – your people to be able to live them on a daily basis. But is there such a model that can be applied on a global basis?

Thankfully, there is. The Leadership Challenge is one (and in our opinion the best). The Leadership Challenge has had over 20 years research and development from over 40 countries worldwide in the Five Core Practices of Leaders (defined by followers). These Practices, based on the rigorous research, are Modelling the Way, Inspiring a Shared Vision, Challenging the Process, Enabling Others to Act, and Encouraging the Heart.

So if you would like to start defining and developing a vibrant leadership culture, why not get in touch with us now about doing so in your company?
