Are leaders born or made? New study tips the balance…

Submitted by on Sunday, 20 January 2013No Comment

are leaders born or madeAre leaders born or made?… This is a question we are asked a lot during our Leadership Challenge training workshops as well as in general. And it may be of little surprise that the question of whether leaders are born or made is debated fiercely in the academic community as a whole.

This new study investigating whether there is a DNA characteristic in leaders is likely to stir the pot even more. Because the findings are that – yes – there is a genetic link to ‘natural leaders’ and – at the same time – no – it doesn’t hold true all the time.

So where does this leave us?

As the authors of the study have concluded: ‘Leadership should still be thought of predominantly as a skill to be developed.’

So the good news is that there is still hope for those of us without the fabled rs4950 genotype!
